Residential 2500 Square Foot Putting Green with lighted cups, numbered flags, 2 bunkers

This Palm Valley, FL customer’s trophy green was installed throughout the winter of 2010. When the project was finally completed, the customer had a 2500 square foot sand filled green that boasted 9 lighted holes and numbered flags. The large synthetic grass apron features a kettle bunker left and large ball grabbing bunker in the front. There are a few options for chipping to this green from the large synthetic turf driving/chipping mats we installed. An entire party could putt around this green with room to spare.

1200 square feet Nylon Putting Green w/uniform 18″ collar, Tee Box/Chipping Mat

This 1200 square foot nylon masterpiece green was installed next to the driveway to get the visitors attention as they drive into a Collins Turf Division golf scape. It screams, “Welcome To Golf USA, Jacksonville, FL!” As long as there’s no parking on the dancefloor! A chipping mat allows short bump and runs and then golfers can turn around and tee off the other direction. This provides a variety of shots right in the backyard!

This past summer, Collins Turf donated turf and the installation of a small synthetic turf putting green for the DIY Network’s show, “Rescue Renovations”. The show which aired last night, (Shea front yard) stars Kayleen McCabe a Denver local. On DIY Network’s Rescue Renovation, Kayleen saves project-challenged homeowners who are in over their heads with their renovations.

Front Yard and Back Yard 34th and Federal Blvd in Denver

Synthetic turf is a good option for areas that homeowners want to remain aesthetically pleasing, and in areas that are difficult to maintain. The Yun residence in Denver sits upon a steep hill in the front yard that was difficult to keep grass alive. The steep hill also had a diseased chinese elm tree. After the homeowner had the tree removed, we brought in the recycled concrete sub-base and turf. We cut in several large rocks to give it a realistic look. The only maintenance required is occasional blowing of leaves and trash off with a leaf blower. We were hoping Denver Water would give a rebate for the conversion to synthetic turf, but they did not offer any help. Timuquana Animal Hospital Commercial Dog Run

Recently we were hired to install Perfectturf Incorporated’s Petgrass at a commercial installation for Dr. Cox at Timuquana Animal Hospital. Heavy dog traffic and full sun exposure in the back of the hospital made it very difficult to keep grass alive at the facility. Dr. Cox chose Petgrass for its antimicrobial properties. After we removed all of the existing grass and mulch, we installed the turf and a heavy weed barrier fabric around the perimeter. Then we wheel barrowed in 9 tons of 3 inch river stones. We the result is very eye catching, and requires very little of the busy staff for maintenance.

Synthetic Grass Between Pavers?

After a recent large turf installation on Davis Island in Tampa, Fl, we worked with Jimmy Holloway, of Holloway Pools, with some turf to go in between his company’s cast stone installation. The turf is a great alternative to any other material in between pavers, as it is durable and need no maintenance. Turf jobs of this type require more time than materials, as there are a couple of seams at every intersection. The turf is also staked into the dry tamped sub-base of the cast stones ensuring that it will remain in place throughout any storms this waterfront house may endure. The job was pretty tricky but really the hardest part was keeping the work crew out of Holloway Pool’s Infinity Edge hot tub! We also used Progreen N89 Real for this installation. Small Sand Filled Chipping green with Progreen Real N89

As you might have read in the above note, the customer also had Collins Turf Division install a putting and chipping green into their landscape. We used sand filled polypropylene putting green material so that the home owner could practice short chip shots and putts in his backyard. He even had us use some white turf we had in the shop to create a synthetic turf sand trap!

We used Progreen International’s N89 Real as fringe around the green and it came out beautifully. This turf is by far the densest, softest, most realistic landscape turf that we’ve seen to date. This was our fourth installation with this turf, it does have a higher price, but WOW does it look real.

New Clay Bocce Court Construction

Collins Turf Division’s most recent bocce court installation was yet another type of clay court construction. Several types of aggregate are used to build smooth rolling courts. In the past, we’ve used Har-Tru Florida blend tennis court clay, granite fines, but this time we utilized baseball clay for its rolling surface characteristics and overall aesthetic qualities. The 10 foot by 60 foot court effectively filled up a large void in the customers’ yard, and the maroon clay really adds a sharp eye catching element to the yard. The customer recently sent this quick note:

“Hey Ben, We had our first “Margarita Bocce Ball” tournament over the weekend and got plenty of great comments about the putting green and bocce ball court. Several of our guests are envisioning how they can incorporate a putting / chipping area into their landscapes. I will be sure to give them your info. Just wanted to say thanks again for the work you did.”

Technical Synthetic Turf Information

Collins Turf Division is proud to display the many different colors, thicknesses, and varieties of synthetic turf to our customers. We are constantly staying on top of the developments in the turf world by maintaining relationships with our manufacturers and evaluating and presenting to our customer turf samples that we have in our office. We have installed turf for numerous manufacturers in the synthetic turf industry. We presently have turf samples from Progreen International, Turf Evolutions, Field Turf, ACT global, Astroturf, Perfect Turf, Tiger Turf, Synthetic Grass Warehouse, Artificial Turf Supply.com, Pregra, Grasstex, and others. If you represent a manufacturer we encourage you to send us your turf samples and literature about your product. We can also have custom turf manufactured for specific installation purposes.

Turf goes through rigorous testing by the manufacturers to maintain high quality products. Here is a picture of a machine going through a wear test.

Amen Corner Putting Green

Master’s Week in Augusta was as busy as ever this year. We spent a lot of time with the spectators in traffic trying to get close to the course. Our latest project was a nylon putting green with fringe at the nicest hospitality house in Augusta, The Lodge, which is across the street from Gate 8. Troy Goebelt, owner of The Lodge at Augusta, purchased a nylon putting green to provide his guests with an outlet for their golf enthusiasm. The guests were able to challenge each other with exciting putts into the evening hours with the low-voltage lighting we installed in the cups that up-lit the practice flags. The lighting was a bonus for the owner, as we kept it a secret until the green was completed. We received a nice email from guest Tom Acker that stated, “Ben, Here are the photos I took Tuesday morning at the hospitality house where you were installing the putting green. The waterproof landscape lights in the synthetic putting green make it extremely versatile for nightime entertainment! My three buddies and I used the green later that evening and it really was nice. We liked the lights under the holes, the realistic roll and breaks that you do not find in the past generations of artificial greens.”
